About the Authors

Walter T. Benecki
Walt holds B.S. and M.S. Degrees from Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A.
from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1989, Walt was named President of Arnold Magnetic
Technologies. Walt was president of MMPA from 1994-1997 and served as a member of the
Board of Great Western Minerals Group (2006-2009), and the Advisory Board of Bunting Magnetics
Company (2002-2016). Since 2001, Walt has managed a consulting practice serving the global
permanent magnet industry. In 2017, Walt published the 3rd Edition of “The Global Permanent
Magnet Industry”.

Steve Constantinides
Steve is a materials scientist with 12 years experience at Corning Inc. in glass ceramics,
passive electronic components, furnace design and manufacturing management
systems. At GTE Valenite, tungsten carbide manufacturer, Steve had responsibility for over
40 vacuum and atmosphere furnaces. In 1988, Steve joined Crucible Magnetics as
Manager of Technology and Quality Assurance. After joining Arnold Magnetic
Technologies in 1992, Steve performed process and product development,
manufacturing and applications engineering. For the last 11 years at Arnold, he was
Director of Technology. Since January 2017, Steve has been a consultant to the magnetics
and materials industries.

Dr. John Ormerod
John graduated from the University of Manchester, UK with a B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.
in Metallurgy. He has over twenty years of research, product development, and
manufacturing experience in magnetics. John worked for Phillips and Arnold
Engineering (now Arnold Magnetic Technologies). In 2002, John was named
President of Res Manufacturing, a manufacturer of stamped metal components.
John has provided expert ITC testimony regarding issues of patent invalidity on
rare earth magnets. In 2015 John founded his consultancy serving the magnet
and metals industries.

Dr. Stanley R. Trout
Stan’s experience includes corporate responsibilities
with Molycorp, Magnequench, Hitachi Magnetics, Crucible Magnetics and Recoma.
Stan started his Spontaneous Materials consulting practice in 2001, assisting
clients with solutions to technical problems involving permanent magnets and
rare earths. Stan is a registered professional engineer in Colorado and
Pennsylvania, holds a B.S. in Physics from Lafayette College and a Ph.D. in
Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr.
Trout is a member of the IEEE and UK Magnetics Societies.
